A color sorter is a high-tech machine to help you sort granular materials. It has strict requirements for installation, operation, use, and maintenance. You need proper installation to ensure safe and smooth operation.

This guide will give you step-by-step guidelines to install a color sorter. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Unpack & Check

Before unpacking, ensure a safe environment to prevent component damage and human injuries. Check on the spare parts listed in the box and keep them safe.

Step 2: General Guidelines & Preparation

Site & Environmental Requirements

Choose a level surface with a platform height above 1.8meters. You should connect the machine to the ground and drill the steel underground for at least 50cm.

Prevent ground vibration, static or electromagnetic interference, and high-frequency transmission area. The place should be good indoor ventilation and not be humid, dusty, over cold, or hot.

Choose a good grounding and use metal pipes for inlet, outlet, and suction pipes. Make sure you fix the equipment that needs support mounting with expansion screws. Besides, you have to mount them based on the position of four joint hoofs of the color sorter.

You should complete all on-field welding work before installing the color sorter. Also, the sorting machine should be installed last after the polisher or grinder.

Light Requirements

Avoid the influence of direct sunlight or other illuminating devices. Still, ensure adequate light for machine operation and maintenance.

Maintenance Requirements

Leave suitable spaces to operate, inspect, maintain, and repair the machine. Ensure enough room at the front and rear of the machine for lamp replacement. It is also for the maintenance of components in the electrical box.

Also, allow enough space for loading and unloading of receptacles. It is also essential for the maintenance of ejectors.

Step 3: Mechanical Installation

For installation, do not remove the round feet of the machine. Choose a solid enclosed platform or hard ground, and install the base angle using a level gauge. Adjust its levelness to a maximum of 2/1000mm for machine stability.

Keep at least 80cm of passages on each side for machine operation, patrol, and maintenance.

The upper feed port should match the user’s feed pipe. Set the adjusting plate and storage box on the pipe. You have to prevent them from pressing on the hoppers. Or else, they will result in vibration and reduce the sorting accuracy.

Fix the discharge port with the corresponding ports. The purpose is to sort the materials into accepted or rejected hoppers.

Inspect the stability of the lifting ring carefully. You have to check the overall safety when lifting the machine too.

Step 4: Electrical Installation

Follow the precaution steps below to reach maximum and secure use of the sorting machine:

Regulator Installation

Fix a power regulator with built-in isolation within the machine and the power supply. Make sure you fit the regulator according to the host power and suitable size regulator.  Install the regulator before the host power line.

Ground Rod Installation

Ensure a quality grounding connection between the ground rod and the ground cable. The lower resistance(<1Ω) of the grounding cable, the better. Each machine should have its dedicated grounding.

Connect the machine frames with the metal parts around. Also, combine them nicely with the grounding of the machine, the power conditional, and the isolation transformer.

Ensure you have a quality grounding rod and keep it moist. Remember to change the rusted ground rod over time.

Keep the dry ground insulated. Still, the grounding resistance will increase under dry weather. So, make sure you check the resistance after installing the grounding rod.

You should hire professional electricians to do all the power and grounding. The experts should connect the power input with good skills for complete grounding.

Make sure you connect all machine frames to the support brackets. Each of them must be grounded individually. The support frame needs to be connected to the feeding and discharging device.

Machines without support rods should be grounded directly and independently.

The feeding, discharging, or vacuuming pipes need to be metallic. Ground them nicely to prevent static build-up. Also, ensure that the conductors are also grounded.

Power Supply

You must follow the wiring directions and precautions. It is to prevent injuries or electric shock.

The external voltage supply required is AC single-phase 220V±10%, 50HZ±1%, 20A. It is mainly for the main unit used in the sorting machine. You need to equip them with the electric control cabinet facilities. The facilities should be within 5 meters of the main AC power inlet.

Some countries need you to connect the main supply through an extra disconnector. Install the separate disconnector earlier if there isn’t an individual isolation switch.

Step 5: Air Compressor Installation

Air Compressor

You must use an oil-free and water-free air compressor. Note to equip them with a water-oil filter and use a Dg25mm or higher grade galvanized pipe to connect them.

You are recommended to install the air compressor in a separate room close to the machine. It is to lessen the noise and ensure adequate air pressure.

Ensure you clean dirt and dust inside the pipes before connecting them. Drain the impurities in the pipes when connecting them to the sorting machine. The aim is to prevent them from entering the color sorter pipeline.

Use 2 meters of “1” high-energy hose to connect pipes from the air compressor. It is to prevent vibration impacts. Similarly, use 3 meters of “1” high energy hose to connect to the color sorter.

Before connecting or disconnecting the pipes and fittings, switch off the air supply.

The pipe length between the air compressor and the gas storage tank should be more than 3.5m. You have to install the compressor and tank in separate spaces.

Temperature & Environment

Keep the temperature of the air compressors and the filters within 0-40°C.

When the room temperature drops below 0°C in winter, you should drain the sewage and airdry them.

Besides, add more insulation steps to ensure temperature above 0°C.

It is vital, so the filter and pipes don’t freeze and block the airflow. You can also avoid extra maintenance costs due to the damage.

There is a pre-stage filter fitted with the machine. Keep it far from the air compressor so it can fully function.

You need to replace the filter element when the pressure gauge shows a notable drop in air pressure (>0.1MPa). Do not remove the filter element, or it will bring severe effects and damage to the filter element.

Before or within 30days of use, you need to inspect the pressure vessel. Check according to the “Special Equipment Safety Supervision Regulations” by the State Council.

You need to inspect and manage the pressure vessel based on the local special equipment. Ensure essential filing procedures as the supervision team checks regularly.

Step 6: Dust Collection Pipe Installation

Users should prepare a dust pipeline. It is to prevent the dust of the material from affecting the sorting effects in the enclosed space.
